Radio-Television of Vojvodina (RTV) began its 5 p.m. news bulletin on Monday with an apology to viewers for years of one-sided and uncritical reporting.

After showing footage of celebrations in Novi Sad following the Student List's victory in Sunday's parliamentary election, presenter Goran Eror said the public broadcaster had failed to show viewers some of the scenes from the previous night.
"For many years, the public service broadcaster failed to fulfil its role. Things were kept quiet, one-sided information was provided and reporting was uncritical. The right questions were not asked, or no questions were asked at all. We owe viewers an apology for that," Eror read from a statement.
He said some RTV employees had fought for journalists and editors to work freely and in line with professional ethics, adding that the struggle had come too late but remained important.
Eror also announced that Nenad Cacic had resigned as acting editor-in-chief of RTV's first television channel. Blazo Popovic was appointed to replace him, while Predrag Novkovic was named programme director.
The changes followed demands from some employees and general director Goran Karadzic. The Nezavisnost union had called for the editor's removal a year earlier, citing concerns over the broadcaster's integrity and pro-government reporting.
