The Giants’ kicking game has been a problem the past few seasons.
They seemed to have cured those recent woes, though, with the ascension of undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada during camp and the first few weeks of the season.
After beating out fellow youngster Ben Sauls with a strong training camp and preseason showing, Zvada started the regular season a perfect 9-for-9 on field goal attempts.
The 23-year-old has hit a bit of a rut over the past three weeks, though.
With two more misses during Sunday’s overtime win over the Texans, Zvada has made just three of his nine attempts in Big Blue’s last three games.
He also botched a late-game kickoff assignment for the second straight week, sending the ball through the end zone for a touchback to open overtime.
Zvada knows he hasn’t nearly been good enough, and he’ll look to get things right during the upcoming bye week.
Though some have grown concern over the young kicker’s shakiness, head coach John Harbaugh continued to express confidence in him postgame.
“I’m not worried,” he emphasized. “I think he’s doing what a lot of rookies do -- I’m totally confident he will be fine because I know how good he is and I know what a good head he has.”
In another show of faith, Harbaugh told reporters via Zoom on Monday’s off day that he doesn’t anticipate bringing in other kickers for a tryout at this time.
