The Xiaomi 18 could be one of the most exciting lower-priced flagship smartphones of the year, as the latest rumors suggest Xiaomi is making hardly any compromises, equipping the Xiaomi 18 with a metal body and not one but two 200-megapixel cameras. However, the device is reportedly set to miss out on one of the Pro model's most exciting features.

Shortly before the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max launch in Europe, the relatively reliable leaker Smart Pikachu has obtained new information about the Xiaomi 18, the base model in the series, which is expected to be officially unveiled in December. With a screen diagonal of 6.4 inches, the Xiaomi 18 is reportedly similarly compact to the Xiaomi 18 Pro, and even the two 200-megapixel cameras are said to be retained on the cheaper base model.
However, according to the leaker's information, the Xiaomi 18 will forgo the Privacy Display, which protects sensitive screen content from prying eyes by restricting viewing angles. The Xiaomi 18 allegedly features a metal body. The remaining specifications align with earlier rumors, as Smart Pikachu says the Xiaomi 18 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a 7,000 mAh battery, which, as with the top model, could be replaced with a slightly smaller battery in Europe.
It is not yet known how the Xiaomi 18 will differ from the more expensive Xiaomi 18 Pro apart from the missing Privacy Display. However, it is reasonable to assume that, as with the Xiaomi 17, the secondary rear display will be omitted, while some of the cameras could feature smaller sensors. If Xiaomi can offer the base model of the series at a significantly lower price than the Xiaomi 18, which is expected to be available in Europe starting at €1,399 ($1,559), the device could become an exciting alternative to compact flagships such as the Apple iPhone 18 Pro ($1,439 on Amazon).
