KWAZULU-NATAL — uMkhonto weSizwe Party First Deputy President Duduzane Zuma has put party members on notice, warning that anyone who fails to perform in their role will be removed from office, regardless of the position they hold.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters at a rally in uMlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, Duduzane made clear that the party would not tolerate underperformance as it contests its first nationwide Local Government Elections on 4 November 2026.
"If we put you in a position of power, and you are expected to do what you're supposed to do as per the people's mandate, and you don't, we will remove you," he told the crowd.
"No matter what position you are in, whether you are within the party, whether you're within the municipality, local government, if you mess around, we will remove you."
MK Party eyes eThekwini victory but faces coalition arithmetic
The MK Party enters its first Local Government Elections as the dominant force in KwaZulu-Natal, having captured 45.35% of the provincial vote and 37 of 80 seats in the May 2024 national and provincial elections.
In eThekwini, polling by firms places MK support at roughly 43%, with the Democratic Alliance trailing at approximately 28%, the ANC at around 13%, and the IFP at approximately 7%.
Despite that commanding support, 43% falls short of the 50%-plus-one threshold needed to govern the metro outright. With up to 69 parties contesting Durban, analysts project that MK will be the largest party in eThekwini but will likely need a coalition to elect an executive mayor.
How did social media react to Duduzane's statement?
Social media users responded with a mix of scepticism and mockery. Dikotsi Jethro Petrus asked:
"What if the president messes up?"
Zola Ntongo Jack questioned:
"Did Sbonelo Nomvalo also mess around?"
Onikwa Mpumela noted:
"But nobody can remove father and son; they're owners."
Sya Nyandayemkhonto added:
"He should include himself there."
Dinho Rampas asked:
"What will happen if you mess up yourself?"
