BUSAN — The 5th Radiopharmaceutical-Healthcare Symposium opens on the 30th for a two-day run at the Nurimaru APEC House in Busan's Haeundae district, bringing together experts to discuss radiopharmaceutical development and ways to secure next-generation therapeutic isotopes.
The symposium, organized jointly by the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, Pusan National University and SNVIA, carries the theme "Domestic Self-Sufficiency in Radiopharmaceuticals and Strategies for Next-Generation Therapeutic Isotopes."
The agenda covers next-generation therapeutic isotopes, radioimmunotherapy drugs and precision localized radiation therapy. Experts from industry, academia, research institutes and hospitals will share challenges across research, manufacturing and clinical settings — from isotope supply to drug development, quality control, clinical application and regulatory review — and explore ways to work together.
The Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences completed a radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility meeting Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards in 2024 and uses its own radiopharmaceuticals for both diagnosis and treatment. Drawing on that manufacturing and clinical base, the institute has also expanded cooperation with research organizations and companies to help bring research results into medical practice.
"This event will be a venue for discussing how to cooperate on domestic self-sufficiency in radiopharmaceuticals and the development of next-generation therapies," an official at the institute said.
