Brazil has witnessed a historic presidential election as Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeats Flávio Bolsonaro to secure an unprecedented fourth term, extending his presidency through 2030. With 51.79% of the vote, Lula defeated his rival by more than 4.4 million votes.
However, the result has sparked controversy. Flávio Bolsonaro has refused to concede defeat and announced plans to challenge the outcome legally, questioning the nationwide two-hour extension of voting. Brazil's Supreme Electoral Court has confirmed Lula's victory, while electoral law experts consider annulment highly unlikely.
Meanwhile, Lula's supporters celebrated across major Brazilian cities, and several Latin American leaders congratulated the president-elect for his historic victory.
