Kathmandu, Oct 26: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated rainfall and snowfall are expected to take place across various parts of the country, starting coming Thursday and intensifying particularly on Friday and Saturday. The weather is being impacted due to the influence of cyclone Arnab that has developed in the Bay of Bengal.
Issuing a special bulletin today, the Department has urged the public to exercise high caution, given the possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas.
The cyclone in the Bay of Bengal is expected to gradually intensify as it moves in a north-westerly direction, eventually causing a change in Nepal's weather, potentially leading to rain and snowfall.
Weather conditions will begin to shift on Thursday and rainfall is expected, particularly on Friday and Saturday, across various areas within Koshi, Bagmati, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
From Friday through Saturday moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely in many locations across the Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
Likewise, the Weather Forecasting Division, under the Department, has stated that moderate to heavy rainfall is also forecast for certain locations within the Lumbini Province. Similarly, there is a possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in some areas of the Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, with the potential for heavy rainfall in one or two locations.
The Department has indicated a risk of heavy snowfall, blizzards, and avalanches in the high-hilly and mountainous regions of the country.
In addition, the Department has urged farmers to exercise necessary caution, as the anticipated rainfall could disrupt the harvesting of paddy crop. Likewise, tourists planning to visit high-hilly or mountainous region are urged to check weather conditions before traveling and to remain in a safe location during adverse weather.
Furthermore, as the rain and snowfall are expected to lead to colder temperatures and may potentially cause floods, landslides, road obstructions, and disruptions to air travel, the Department has requested the general public and relevant authorities to make necessary preparations. (RSS)
