More than 200 people from Amman Koil village near Sakkarakottai in Ramanathapuram descended at the Collector’s office on Monday demanding action against a person attempting to encroach upon a public road.
Village leader Kathiresan stated, “A tar road worth ₹16 lakh was laid in 2024 under the Chief Minister’s Village Road Scheme on the public road that our villagers have been using for 60 years, and this road is in use by the villagers.”
Meanwhile, an individual from their village working in the postal department has obtained a patta transfer in his name for the land adjacent to this road.
Subsequently, he has registered a deed for that specific land in his wife’s name, he alleged.
“Through this, he is attempting to encroach upon the public tar road as well. If this tar road is encroached upon by an individual, our villagers will face a situation where they cannot fetch drinking water or travel to other places,” Mr. Kathiresan noted.
The villagers demanded that the Collector should take action against the individual attempting to encroach through fraudulent documents, and the tar road must remain in continued public use.
