SOUTH AFRICANS RALLY BEHIND FATHER WHO PROTECTED HIS CHILDREN DURING ALLEGED HIJACKING
A 53-year-old father, Sidney Hill, is receiving support from South Africans following a frightening encounter with alleged hijackers in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal.
The incident happened on 9 October 2026, when Hill was leaving his property with his children. According to reports, a vehicle carrying armed men blocked his Toyota Hilux before the suspects allegedly opened fire.
Hill returned fire during the confrontation. Police confirmed that one suspect was fatally wounded, while the remaining suspects fled.
Dashcam footage of the incident later circulated widely on social media, prompting discussions about crime and the dangers faced by South African families.
Following the incident, a fundraising campaign was launched on BackaBuddy to help Hill cover legal expenses and provide professional trauma counselling for his children.
The campaign has attracted support from members of the public who want to help the family through what has been described as an extremely difficult experience.
The funds are intended to ease the financial burden and help the children receive support as they process the traumatic event.
Police have opened cases relating to attempted carjacking, attempted murder and an inquest. Investigations are ongoing.
As the family works towards recovery, many South Africans are expressing their support and wishing them strength during this difficult time. ❤️
