Alessandro Costacurta believes that Milan are beginning to show promising signs under head coach Ruben Amorim, but feels that it is still too soon to start talking about the Rossoneri as serious contenders for the Serie A title: ‘I’m not seeing a Scudetto team’.
Milan are unbeaten in Serie A after eight matches of the 2026-27 season, although so are Inter, Lazio and Roma – the first time in history that four sides have gone eight matches unbeaten at the start of a new Serie A campaign.
They bounced back after a disappointing defeat against AFC Bournemouth in the Europa League last week with a 2-0 win away against Udinese in Serie A on Sunday night, which drew them level on points with the third-placed Roma and has them four points behind Inter and Lazio in the top two positions.
Legendary former Milan defender Costacurta was on punditry duty with Sky for the Udinese game on Sunday, and though he thinks Milan are a way off fighting for the Serie A title, he is starting to see encouraging signs from Amorim and his players.
Costacurta reviews Udinese 0-2 Milan and Amorim’s ‘team with promise’
“I’m seeing players who are following their coach in a very particular way,” said Costacurta (via Milannews.it)

“I like the attitude they’re showing on the pitch. However, I’m still not seeing a Scudetto team. I think there are a couple of other sides ahead of them at the moment, but it’s really early and this is a team that is showing promise.
“That’s what I see, a team with promise. A lot of running forwards. What I’m noticing is this offensive drive, not just when they have to recover the ball, but also when they’re trying to build. I believe that this is the biggest difference they’ve shown so far. They go at it all the time.”
Amorim has experimented with several different formations and systems since moving to Milan and has not been afraid to chop and change his starting XIs. One player that has had to be patient for opportunities is Davide Bartesaghi, who was one of the players of the match against Udinese on Sunday.

“Bartesaghi had a wonderful game. I was enthusiastic about his performance because he got himself involved so much and always did so with quality. It seems like that’s the plan: Attack whether you’re on or off the ball.”
