The CB-CID, Dindigul, has filed the chargesheet in the case of fraudulent registration of Palani Math land before the jurisdictional Judicial Magistrate Court in Dindigul.
According to a press release, the CB-CID said it had electronically filed the chargesheet before the jurisdictional JM court on October 24 in the case of the alleged fraudulent sale and registration of 1.35 acre of land belonging to Arulmigu Dhandapani Swamigal Math in Palani.
The CB-CID said the land dedicated in 1888 for the Math’s religious and charitable purposes has a guideline value of approximately ₹16 crore. The investigation revealed that a sale deed was executed for a stated consideration of ₹2 crore and registered despite the pendency of an appeal by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department.
During the investigation, more than 160 witnesses were examined. Documents obtained from the Registration, Revenue and HR and CE Departments, CCTV footage, call detail records and banking records were collected and analysed, the CB-CID said.
Based on the evidence collected, the chargesheet has been filed against Murugadass, Sethupathy, Vellaithurai, Justin Manikandan (Sub-Registrar, under suspension) and Jeyaprakash. One accused, advocate Anwardeen, died on August 7 and the proceedings against him have abated, the CB-CID said.
Further investigation is continuing regarding other persons involved and aspects relating to offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the CB-CID said.
