GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) had advised the consultant for the development project linked to Sunday's fatal landslide to take slope safety precautions following a site visit in August.
Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the council had followed up with a letter outlining the measures required at the site.
"We advised the consultant in August after a site visit and followed up with a letter on the measures that need to be taken at the site.
"They have put in place whatever measures required of them," he said when contacted.
He did not elaborate on the measures taken.
Rajendran said MBPP had visited all sites with slopes between August and September to advise those involved to take the necessary precautions ahead of the monsoon season.
He said an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
"It is only right that I submit the report to the investigation committee," he said when asked about the probe and its preliminary findings.
The development project, involving the construction of a road and apartments, was issued a stop-work order following Sunday's landslide. Work had been ongoing for more than a year.
The landslide claimed the life of Dr Wong Kar Lin, 73. His wife and mother-in-law survived.
