BUSAN — Kim Sung-ki, who served as director general for personnel planning at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, took office on the 28th as Busan's vice mayor for administrative affairs. Drawing on his experience in local finance and tax policy at the central government and his tenure overseeing city administration as head of the planning and coordination office in Sejong, he will take charge of organizational management and major policy coordination at the Busan Metropolitan Government.
Kim entered public service in 2000 after passing the 43rd higher civil service examination, the city said. At the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, he headed the local tax revenue information division, the local tax exemption system division, the local tax policy division and the fiscal policy division. He also served as chief of staff to the minister, director general of the local tax bureau and director general for personnel planning.
He also has experience working at local governments. He twice served as head of the planning and coordination office in Sejong, where he oversaw policy planning and city administration overall. Busan expects the combination of his expertise in finance and his experience in local administration to strengthen interdepartmental cooperation and policy coordination.
"With stable organizational management as a foundation, the vice mayor will push forward major city initiatives in substance and support Busan's development," Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo said.
