The Detroit Lions (4-2) will host their division rival, the Minnesota Vikings (6-0), in Week 8. Despite the Vikings being the last undefeated team standing, the folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook believe the 1972 Dolphins will be sipping champagne next Sunday and have set the opening betting line at Lions -3 points.
The Vikings’ biggest offseason moves included signing starting quarterback Kyler Murray and WR3 Jauan Jennings, as well as trading away EDGE Jonathan Greenard to the Eagles. While the offense gained and the defense lost talent, the results on the field in 2026 couldn’t be more opposite.
The Vikings defense has been dominant and the primary reason Minnesota is undefeated. They are the top defense in DVOA, but not just overall; they also rank No. 1 in defending the pass and No. 3 in defending the run. They allow teams to score only 12.3 points, on average, and are holding teams to 253 yards of total offense. They’re playing at an incredibly high level.
On offense, we see the other end of the spectrum. The Vikings offense ranks 27th in DVOA, 27th in the passing game, and 22nd in rushing. They average 20.8 points per game, but much of that is because their defense sets them up in many favorable situations.
The Lions are still working out some of the kinks in their roster, but there have been noticeable signs of improvement, and it doesn’t take much for the offense to catch fire quickly. This will be a true good-vs.-good matchup on Sunday afternoon at Ford Field, as the Lions’ explosive offense will do their best to find cracks in a defense that doesn’t have many flaws.
