By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton said that Belize needs systems that are fair to all.
“When similar offences are treated differently, public trust is weakened and confidence in our institutions is diminished. The law must be applied firmly, fairly and impartially, without fear or favour. No one should be above the law, and everyone must be entitled to its protection,” Panton said.
The Leader of the Opposition says that “women, children and every person who reports sexual violence must know that their dignity matters. They deserve protection, access to support and confidence that their complaints will be considered fairly, regardless of the influence or position of the accused.”
Panton further called for equal treatment, equal consideration and equal protection under the law.
“Belize deserves leaders who have a moral compass and institutions worthy of its trust. No one of us or small group is us are above the laws that govern us,” she said.
