The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday night accused President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of shifting responsibility for Nigeria’s hunger and economic hardship to the opposition, insisting that the ruling party must account for its record in government since 2015.
The opposition party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Honourable Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, was reacting to Tinubu’s remarks at the APC’s recent presidential campaign launch in Kaduna, where the President blamed the opposition for the hunger in the country.
The PDP urged the Tinubu-led administration to focus on addressing the economic crisis, arguing that Nigerians deserved practical solutions to rising living costs rather than excuses.
It stated, “The PDP is not responsible for the hunger Nigerians are experiencing today.
“The APC must own its record, address the nation’s challenges and deliver on its promises to Nigerians.”
The opposition party also faulted remarks by the APC’s Publicity Secretary during his appearance on News Central’s Breakfast Show on Monday, October 26, 2026, in which he reportedly blamed the PDP for the hardship confronting Nigerians.
The PDP challenged the ruling party to explain its plans to make food affordable, support farmers, strengthen local food production, create jobs, improve security, fight corruption, boost electricity supply, reduce transportation costs and restore the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians.
Mohammed wrote, “After more than 10 years of APC rule, Nigerians deserve answers, not excuses,” as he urged the government to outline its achievements and concrete measures to improve citizens’ welfare.
While acknowledging that the Tinubu administration might have recorded some achievements, the PDP said such recognition should not be interpreted as an endorsement of all its policies or an acceptance of attempts to attribute current economic difficulties to previous PDP-led administrations.
It maintained that its 16 years in government could not serve as a blanket justification for the shortcomings of the present administration, adding that every government must be judged by its policies, decisions, achievements and the living conditions of the people.
“Historical circumstances may provide context, but they cannot serve as a permanent shield against accountability,” the PDP further stated, stressing that Nigerians needed tangible improvements in their daily lives.
The party noted that Nigerians remembered the standard of living and security situation under previous PDP administrations, arguing that citizens were now demanding affordable food, economic stability and improved security.
It expressed confidence that voters would judge political parties by their records, policies and commitment to public welfare, adding that the growing desire for a return to PDP leadership reflected Nigerians’ yearning for better governance, improved living conditions and a more secure and prosperous country.
“Our message to the APC is simple: stop the blame game and start taking responsibility. Nigerians deserve solutions, not excuses,” Mohammed added.
The PDP urged the Federal Government to implement concrete, measurable and sustainable policies to ease the hardship facing citizens, strengthen food security and restore economic stability.
