The Ministry of Local Government has directed the Hoima City Clerk to interdict six city officials to allow investigations into alleged corruption, abuse of office and mismanagement of public resources.
The directive was issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ben Kumumanya, following a ministerial anti-corruption Baraza held in Hoima City about two weeks ago, during which concerns were raised about the conduct of some city employees.
The officials targeted by the directive are Godfrey Muhumuza, the city physical planner; Robert Byaruhanga, the city natural resources officer; Johnson Kusima Baingana, the city education officer; Bonaventure Kiiza, the city engineer; Milton Asiimwe, the secretary of the City Service Commission; and Carolyne Nyamahunge, the city inspector of schools.
Kumumanya directed that the six officials be interdicted to facilitate investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant investigative agencies into the allegations against them.
The concerns raised include gross negligence of duty, abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources and financial impropriety, which were cited as contributing to poor service delivery in the city.
The investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and determine whether the officials bear responsibility for any wrongdoing.
Interdiction is an administrative measure and does not, in itself, establish guilt. The allegations against the officials remain subject to investigation.
