SANA'A – Yemen's Houthi movement has sharply criticized Egypt's decision to provide defensive support to Saudi Arabia in confronting attacks launched by the Iran-backed group, describing the move as a hostile act against Yemen.
Houthi political official Mohammed Ali al-Houthi said Egypt's endorsement of what he described as the defense of Saudi Arabia amounted to a declaration of war against the Yemeni republic.
"It is truly remarkable that while these parties speak of seeking peace in the region, Egypt and its parliament announce support for what they call the defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," al-Houthi said in a statement.
He added: "By doing so, they are effectively declaring war against the Republic of Yemen."
The remarks came in response to reports that Egypt had approved defensive assistance for Saudi Arabia amid growing regional security concerns and continued Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting the Kingdom.
