A delegation from the Chilean Irrigation and Drainage Association (Agryd) concluded a four-day visit to the Dominican Republic focused on identifying business opportunities, strengthening technical cooperation, and exchanging expertise to modernize the country’s agricultural sector.
The delegation met with officials from the National Irrigation Technology Agency (TNR), the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), and other institutions to discuss irrigation technology, agricultural policies, financing, trade, and investment opportunities.
During the visit, the Chilean representatives also met with business and agricultural organizations, including the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD), the Agricultural Bank (Bagrícola), and the Institute for Cooperative Development and Credit (Idecoop). Discussions included potential strategic alliances, technological exchanges, and a possible partial-scope trade agreement between Chile and the Dominican Republic.
The delegation also traveled to San Juan province to observe local experiences with technified irrigation and later met with TNR-authorized suppliers to explore technical and commercial cooperation involving pressurized irrigation technologies.
TNR Executive Director Claudio Caamaño Vélez said the mission provided Chilean producers, technicians, and investors with an opportunity to learn about investment and innovation opportunities in the Dominican Republic.
Agryd Executive Director José Miguel Morán praised the Dominican government’s efforts to modernize irrigation, saying these initiatives can improve agricultural productivity and promote greater sustainability.
The mission forms part of TNR’s international cooperation strategy to strengthen institutional capacity, promote innovation, and establish partnerships focused on efficient water use and sustainable agricultural production.
