Next Crystal Palace manager odds sees Premier League veteran emerge as clear favourite

There is plenty of attention on the situation with the Manchester United manager, but there is also huge pressure on the Crystal Palace boss.

The two clubs have had similar starts to the Premier League season with Palace 17th in the table, one place behind United but level on points.

Pierre Sage arrived at Selhurst Park over the summer and is struggling to make an impact after the successful reign of Oliver Glasner.

The last two league outings have been especially damaging, with a 5-0 battering at rivals Brighton followed by a 2-0 loss at home to Newcastle, who had not been in good form beforehand.

The 47-year-old is under huge pressure and may well need to get results before the upcoming international break if he is to keep hold of his job.

The Eagles go to Fulham in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday before travelling to Spurs on Saturday in the Premier League.

Before the international fixtures in November, Palace then host Hoffenheim in the Europa League and Liverpool in the top flight. If things don’t pick up over those four games then a change could be made.

Clear favourite with the bookmakers to replace Sage is former Burnley, Everton and Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche.

The 55-year-old has been out of management since February when he was dismissed by Forest after just 25 games in charge, winning 10.

A Dyche appointment may look like an omission of a relegation battle this season, which would feel like something of a step back for a club that won the FA Cup and Conference League under Glasner.

Also in the running to be next Eagles boss, according to BetVictor, is former Brentford and Tottenham manager Thomas Frank.

The Dane spent nearly seven years with the Bees, taking charge of over 300 games before a short stint at Spurs which saw him dismissed after 38 matches at the helm.

Other names are considered to be much less likely, but names such as Robbie Keane, Kieran McKenna and Eddie Howe are touted as possible options.

Sage responded to questions about his future and boos from his own fans after defeat to Newcastle, saying: ‘The boos are normal because we don’t have the result. The noise is the consequence of the result of the team, and at the moment we don’t have what we expect.

‘Inside, we are just really focused on solutions. How to be better, how to create the conditions to compete, and we will continue our work, and there’s no noise inside, if you want.

‘It’s normal that people lose patience when you lose, because everybody wants to win. Today it was not the case.

‘I don’t have to convince the people around the club. I just have to convince the players to do their best to compete and to continue to improve.

‘After that, this kind of decision is for the chairman, to the owners, this kind of person.

‘For me, the noise around the team, the noise around the club, it’s only noise.’
