Amazon Prime Video’s new Fallout spin-off inspired by reality competition Big Brother has been given a 2027 release date.
Announced back in January, Fallout Shelter: The Experiment will be set inside a replica of the hit game’s bomb-proof Vault-Tec vaults and see “a diverse group of contestants [enter] an immersive, high-stakes world inspired by the games’ signature dark humour, retro-futurism, and post-apocalyptic survival storytelling.”
“Across a series of escalating challenges, strategic dilemmas, and moral crossroads, contestants must prove their ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience as they compete for safety, power, and ultimately a huge cash prize,” continued the official announcement, with up to $1million available to win.
Now Amazon has confirmed the first four episodes of Fallout Shelter: The Experiment will be available to stream from January 13, 2027. Three more will follow on January 20 ahead of the final episodes on January 27.
According to an open casting call, the series “will not only test dwellers’ core attributes, but also their loyalty and alliances. It’s a game of power dynamics, popularity and social strategy.”
Fallout Shelter: The Experiment is being produced by Studio Lambert, the team behind reality hits The Traitors and Squid Game: The Challenge, and will “stay true to the tone, world-building, and choice-driven ethos that have defined Fallout for over 25 years.”
Amazon’s adaptation of Fallout premiered in 2024 with a second season following in late 2025. Both seasons are in Amazon Prime Video’s top five most-watched shows of all time.
A third season of Fallout was greenlit ahead of the season two premiere and is expected to launch later next year. Aaron Paul has joined the cast while Vault 33 dwellers Annabel O’Hagan (Steph Harper) and Dave Register (Chet) have been promoted to series regulars.
According to an interview, Fallout bosses are eager to get new episodes out as quickly as possible. “I think what’s happened with television, in terms of taking longer and longer from season to season, is kind of an unfortunate trend,” Fallout’s executive producer Jonathon Nolan explained earlier this year. According to the show’s Aaron Moten, the plan is for Fallout to run for as many as six seasons.
