PETALING JAYA: Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How has applied to join the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP), more than four years after representing the constituency as an independent.
SUPP is a component of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the state’s ruling coalition.
See's application form was submitted to SUPP central organising secretary Matthew Chen today and witnessed by party president Dr Sim Kui Hian, the Dayak Daily reported.
In January, See stated that he would not sign up with any political party until the state assembly was dissolved, following speculation that he would join SUPP.
The state assembly was dissolved yesterday.
See, previously with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), retained the Batu Lintang seat in a five-cornered contest in the 12th state election in December 2021.
He left PSB to become an independent assemblyman in 2022.
The three-term assemblyman served the constituency as a PKR representative for two terms. He was, however, sacked from the party in April 2020. He joined PSB the following month.
