Riyadh – The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Monday the interception and destruction of three drones in the Riyadh and Southern regions.
The official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Major General Turki al-Maliki, stated in a statement on the “X” platform: “Three drones were intercepted and destroyed in the Riyadh and Southern regions.”
Earlier on Monday, Saudi Arabia announced a military operation against targets belonging to the Houthi militias, designated as a terrorist organization, in Yemen. The operation included the destruction of five tunnels used for storing ballistic missiles, four launch platforms, and a missile depot.
Al-Maliki stated that the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition carried out the operation to neutralize sources of threat in response to repeated attacks using ballistic missiles and drones.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, al-Maliki explained that the operation also focused on cutting off the militias' supply lines between areas under their control.
He added that it included targeting fortifications, gatherings of militia members, and their military equipment along the front lines inside Yemen.
The Iranian-backed Houthis have escalated their attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes on Riyadh airport, one of which killed 13 people and injured hundreds more on October 10, in the deadliest attack on the kingdom’s territory in more than 10 years.
