Students from Brno’s Masaryk University have announced a strike alert in protest at the government’s plans to end the license fee system for Czech Television and Czech Radio and bring the public broadcasters under the state budget.
Meanwhile, the rectors of Masaryk University and the Brno University of Technology expressed concern over the potential weakening of public media on Tuesday.
Prague’s DAMU drama school, which is part of the Academy of Performing Arts, also announced a strike alert and said it would join a one-day strike by Czech Television and Czech Radio staff on November 3.
The government parties deny that the independence of the broadcasters will be undermined by the change in funding.
