By Zoila Palma: The Julian Cho Society (JCS) has received the Climate Action Award from the Climate Change Department in recognition of its contributions to climate action.
The award recognizes the organization’s continued efforts to advance Indigenous-led initiatives that strengthen community resilience, protect biodiversity, and safeguard the lands and natural resources relied upon by Maya communities.
JCS said climate action for Indigenous Peoples goes beyond environmental protection, encompassing the preservation of ancestral lands, traditional knowledge, and food systems.
The society continues to advocate for climate solutions that recognize Indigenous Peoples not only as communities affected by climate change, but also as essential partners and leaders in developing effective responses.
