TOKYO (TR) – Actress Mio Imada has moved quickly to quash rumors of an impending marriage or agency exit following the sudden announcement that she is shutting down her official website and fan club, reports Zakzak (Oct. 25).
The 29-year-old star revealed on October 25 that her fan club, Ima no Mio, will completely terminate its services on March 31, 2027. New enrollments and renewals will be suspended by February 28, 2027, with pro-rated refunds issued to eligible annual members.
While the phase-out was laid out methodically, the abrupt announcement from an actress at the peak of her popularity sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and triggered a panic among her supporters. Social media quickly lit up with speculation, with frantic fans posting, “Wait! Is she getting married?” and “Is she going independent?”
Imada immediately took to her fan club blog to extinguish the rumors. Addressing her supporters directly, she apologized for the sudden shock and categorically denied the whispers of marriage or an agency transfer.
According to insiders, Imada explained that the closure is a calculated decision tied to a major upcoming milestone: her 30th birthday on March 5 next year. By dismantling the closed, subscription-based fan club model, she aims to make a fresh start and broaden her appeal to a wider audience as she enters her 30s. She assured supporters that she has no intention of cutting ties and hopes to create new avenues for interaction in the future.
While shutting down a fan club is often perceived as a sign of scaling back, it remains a common strategic maneuver for Japanese talents transitioning into new career stages. Actress Ayame Goriki famously closed her fan club in 2019 due to a former agency policy that capped fan clubs for female talents at age 25. Similarly, veteran voice actress Romi Park is slated to close her fan club in 2025 to prepare for her “next developments.”
Imada is currently starring in the Nippon TV drama “Merry Berry Love,” and her momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Industry observers note that the fan club closure is not a retreat, but a highly strategic step to ensure she continues to dominate the screen in her 30s.
