Kousika Neerkarangal has sought construction of a high-level flyover connecting Pannimadai with Kanuvai over Sanganoor River, in the wake of excessive inundation of the existing causeway.
The demand was put forth by the organisation during a recent inspection of the location by District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, along with Kavundampalayam MLA Kanimozhi Santhosh, and officials of Water Resource Department (WRD). Officials of Revenue and Highways departments were also part of the inspecting team.
The representatives of Kousika Neerkarangal said that the Highways Department had initiated efforts during 2023 for securing no-objection certificate from the WRD for construction of a flyover.
The latest spell of heavy rainfall in the Thadagam valley has almost filled the check dam, and poses a risk of inundation of the causeway.
The Collector responded by instructing Highways Department to explore the scope for undertaking the project.
The local public also sought the district administration’s intervention to prevent dumping of garbage in the dam, by bringing in a system of imposing hefty fines. They charged the Pannimadai Panchayat with dumping the garbage in the Kanuvai Dam, and urged the district administration to ensure proper solid waste management by the local body.
They highlighted the need for equipping the local body with about 15 electric vehicles for carrying out solid waste management.
