The 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships take center stage this weekend on Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31, 2026, bringing 14 Grade 1 championship races together at historic Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky.
Situated in the heart of the Bluegrass region, Keeneland welcomes world-class international contenders as it hosts the global showpiece for the fourth time, having previously held the event in 2015, 2020, and 2022.
How Many Breeders Cup Winners Has Aidan O’Brien Had?
Ballydoyle master Aidan O’Brien stands as the co-most successful trainer in Breeders’ Cup history, having amassed an astounding 21 victories at the World Championships.
O’Brien first struck at the meeting in 2001 with Johannesburg in the Juvenile.
And his dominance in turf divisions-highlighted by a record seven wins in the Turf alone-has established his team as a perennial force every autumn.
Heading into this weekend at Keeneland, Aidan O’Brien leads another elite contingent as he aims to break his tie with Bob Baffert and claim sole possession of the all-time wins record.
Main Aidan O’Brien Breeders’ Cup Runners 2026
Great Barrier Reef (Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf):
Headlining Ballydoyle’s target for “Future Stars Friday,” Great Barrier Reef steps into the $1 million Juvenile Turf as one of O’Brien’s premier two-year-old turf prospects.
Boasting the classic blend of early pace and tactical stamina characteristic of top Ballydoyle juveniles. Great Barrier Reef looks perfectly equipped to handle Keeneland’s tight two-turn turf course.
He was the winner of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and has since run third to stablemate Darkness Falls in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf has been another top race for O’Brien – winning the prize a record eight times.
With his first coming in 2011 (Wrote) and most recent in 2025 (Gstaad) – with Ryan Moore having ridden seven of O’Brien’s wins in this Breeders’ Cup race.
Sun Goddess (Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf):
Representing O’Brien in the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf, Sun Goddess brings top-level European juvenile form across the Atlantic.
Her turn of foot and sharp cruising speed make her a leading contender to give Ballydoyle another victory in a race O’Brien has traditionally targeted with high-class fillies.
Sun Goddess will head to the 2026 Breeders’ Cup having won £967,797 in prize money and her last five races.
With her most recent success coming in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket (watch below).
O’Brien has won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf twice – with Meditate (2022) and Lake Victoria (2024).
Diamond Necklace / Benevento Cellini (Breeders’ Cup Turf):
In the $5 million flagship turf race on Saturday, O’Brien saddles a formidable dual assault with Diamond Necklace and Benevento Cellini.
Given O’Brien’s record-breaking history in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (7 wins), both runners carry immense prestige into the 1½-mile test, offering strong tactical options over the Keeneland grass.
Diamond Necklace was a top winner of the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in the summer (watch below).
While Benevento Cellini took the Irish Derby this season after controversially being declared a non-runner in the Epsom Derby.
O’Brien is the winning-most trainer in the history of the Breeders’ Cup Turf with seven wins.
His first in 2002 with High Chaparral and most recent in 2023 with Auguste Rodin.
Precise (Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf):
Lining up in Saturday’s $2 million Filly & Mare Turf, Precise provides Ballydoyle with a high-calibre candidate suited to intermediate turf distances.
With proven group-race credentials in Europe, her versatility and acceleration make her a key player against a competitive international field.
She was a good winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas earlier this season. And also landed the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
O’Brien’s sole Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf win was in 2022 with Tuesday.
True Love (Breeders’ Cup Mile):
Targeted at the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile on Saturday, True Love brings high-class mile form to one of the most explosive races of the weekend.
Having won the English 1000 Guineas at Newmarket back in May (watch below).
Known for traveling strongly through her races. She will look to land one of the most sought-after turf titles on the card.
Aidan O’Brien’s sole Breeders’ Cup Mile win came with Order Of Australia in 2020. While Newmarket handler Charlie Appleby has won four of the last five – he runs hot favorite Notable Speech.
