Alexandra Eala has long been tipped as a future star of the sport.
The young Filipina has quickly become a sensation on the WTA Tour, as evidenced by her fervent fan support across the globe.
Eala’s fans have been treated to a large collection of excellent WTA Tour performances over the past year – performances that have resulted in the 21-year-old rising to world number 19.
Eala has also improved her performances at Grand Slam events, winning five matches across the four tournaments in 2026.
Can Eala win a Grand Slam title in 2027? Tennishead readers have had their say on TalkingPoints.
Tennishead readers do not believe Alex Eala will win a Grand Slam title in 2027
There is a lot of hype surrounding Alex Eala – understandably so given her fame on the world stage and her excellent results on the WTA circuit over the past 10 months.
Despite the hype, Tennishead readers remain unconvinced when it comes to Eala’s Grand Slam-winning credentials.
“Eala winning a Slam, I don’t see that happening, Iva Jovic will win 3 slams before Eala sniffs a slam final,” on contributor stated on TalkingPoints.
“Unless her serve improves dramatically, she will face more Grand Slam disappointments in 2027,” another said. “I hope her team realises that and implement the necessary changes.”
“No, overrated!” another reader emphatically claimed. “Crowd support is better than her tennis!
“She may win a Slam about four years. She’s been lucky on some matches but needs more skills practice certain areas. There are plenty of young players in WTA that can beat players in the top 10 besides Alex.”
Others pointed to Eala’s serve as a glaring detractor when assessing the Filipina’s major-winning credentials.
Eala’s serve has long been highlighted as a weakness: the shot is simply too slow to worry the biggest ball-strikers on the WTA Tour.
Although Eala has most certainly improved the speed, accuracy and consistency of her serve over the past year, the shot remains the weakest in her arsenal.
“No, she hasn’t corrected her serve,” one reader claimed. “She’ll remain a gatekeeper. Never to break the top 10.”
“To be honest, no. She must develop her serve first, and strengthen her strength and stamina, if she wants to win a Grand Slam next year. Plus, her nerves got the better of her in Singapore and Nagoya – which she must overcome,” another contributor said, referring to Eala’s surprise recent defeats to Tatiana Prozorova at the Singapore Open and Xiyu Wang in the Asian Games semi-finals.
Some Tennishead readers have faith in Alex Eala’s Grand Slam winning-ability
Not every reader was so quick to dismiss Eala’s chances of winning a Grand Slam title in 2027.
“She has to up her game, especially her first serve,” one reader said. “I do hope she wins a Slam in 2027!”
“Yes, we hope and pray she can have it,” another stated.
One contributor highlighted the improvements Eala could make to boost her chances of winning a major title next year.
“Not yet,” they said of Eala’s Grand Slam hopes. “She has a good ground game and return of serves.
“But, if she could improve the speed of her serve to about 99 to 105 mph next year then she might win Wimbledon and US Open.”
Eala is currently competing in the Pan Pacific Open – the final WTA 500 event of the year.
The Filipina advanced to the second round on Monday after defeating British youngster Mika Stojsavljevic.
