The Milwaukee Brewers have made all sorts of history during their dominant 10-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the World Series. Jackson Chourio has made most of them, but catcher William Contreras has achieved his own special feat on defense.
Contreras caught Chandler Simpson stealing in the first inning, his third caught stealing in three World Series games. Simpson helped out Contreras a bit by oversliding second base and getting tagged out, but it’s a CS nonetheless.
Per Sarah Langs’ post on X, formerly Twitter, Contreras became the first catcher with three CSs in the first three World Series games since Darren Daulton in 1993.

The fact that Contreras has made such an impact with his arm and glove shouldn’t be all that surprising. He finished second in MLB with 25 CSs this season.
But Contreras has also been doing some major damage with his bat. He had three more hits and an RBI in the Brewers’ dominant Game 3 win. Through three World Series games, Contreras has gone a sizzling 7 of 13 at the plate with three RBIs. With those numbers alone, he should be firmly in contention for the World Series MVP award should the Brewers successfully win the World Series.
But when you also factor in his exceptional defense behind the plate, Contreras suddenly has a very strong case to become the first catcher to win World Series MVP since Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals in 2015.
Before all that talk of MVPs, though, Contreras and the Brewers will have to focus on closing the Rays out in Game 4 on Tuesday.
