A suspected drug trafficking kingpin known as the “Hashish Tiger” was arrested in Tangier after months on the run, Spanish police announced Tuesday, as part of an international operation that led to 86 additional arrests in Spain.
The suspect, identified as Juan Carlos T. B., alias “El Moreno,” was detained on October 8 following cooperation between Moroccan and Spanish authorities. He remains in custody in Morocco pending extradition to Spain.
Spanish investigators accuse him of leading one of the country’s largest hashish trafficking networks, allegedly transporting drugs from Morocco into Spain for distribution across Europe.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 10.8 tonnes of hashish and 20 kilograms of marijuana.
Of the 86 suspects arrested in Spain, 65 were detained in Madrid, 10 in Guadalajara, five in Valencia and six across four other provinces. Eighteen have been remanded in custody.
The investigation remains open, with Spanish authorities not ruling out further arrests or seizures.
