Om Birla said on Monday said parliaments can reduce tensions and build trust among nations as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha inaugurated the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi.
In his address at the historic Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, the MP from Rajasthan's Kota, said that wars, economic instability, tensions around trade, terrorism, climate change and conflicts in various regions around the world do not stop at the border and these global challenges make matters like cooperation, dimplomacy and dialogue increasingly crucial.
"Parliaments can play a special role" in strengthening mutual understanding and trust, reducing international tension and resolving global challenges peacefully, he said while addressing the gathering.
India became the forum's chair at the 11th forum in Brazil in June 2025, where Birla was named chairperson of the 12th Forum.
