A total of 16.78 lakh (16,78,448) voters are in the final electoral rolls of the eight Assembly constituencies of Dakshina Kannada district, following completion of the three month-long Special Intensive Revision exercise.
As per the statistics provided by Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Registration Officer H.V. Darshan, there were a total of 16.46 lakh voters when the draft electoral roll was released on August 24. In the claims and objection period between August 24 and October 22, 41,125 voters were added while 9,064 were deleted, Mr. Darshan said.
Of the 41,125 voters added, 32,986 include who filed Form 6 (for fresh registration), 357 overseas voters by filling Form 6A, and 7,782 by way of transfer from other constituencies.
Among the 9,064 who were deleted, include 7,937 who have permanently shifted, 321 who have died, 766 double entries and 40 foreign nationals. Among these 40 foreign nationals, 17 from Nepal, six each from Australia and USA, five from Canada, two from Britain and one each from Netherlands, South Africa, Ireland and Norway. “After confirming that these people have citizenship of foreign countries, they were deleted from the final roll,” the official said.
While stating that the district did not have any instance of malafide intention of filing objection seeking deletion of names of electors from the electoral rolls, which warranted filing of criminal complaint, Mr. Darshan said a total of 1,205 objections were filed of which 912 were filed by Booth Level Agents of political parties and 293 by others in the period between August 24 and September 23. Of the 1,205, only 879 were filed in the form of Form 7. “None of these objections led to deletion,” he said.
Lauding the booth level officers and other government officers for effective conduct of the SIR, Mr. Darshan said political parties helped by taking the personnel in vehicles of partymen to reach houses of voters located in remote areas. Voters can file appeal over entries in the final electrol roll before him or before Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer.
Mr. Darshan said the district administration has cleared all forms for inclusion, deletion and correction filed before publication of draft roll in August. Forms for inclusion, deletion and correction in entries can be filed online or in physical form, which will be processed in a regular manner shortly.
