THE University Teaching Hospitals have received a donation of 110 wheelchairs from the Dorcas Society of the Woodlands Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to improve patient mobility and strengthen health care service delivery.
The wheelchairs were officially handed over Saturday at a ceremony held at UTH-Adult Hospital in Lusaka, Public Relations Officer Mwiza Mwiya announced.
Of the 110 wheelchairs, 50 have been allocated to the Adult Hospital, while the remaining 60 will be distributed among the four sister hospitals, the Women and Newborn Hospital, the Eye Hospital, the Cancer Diseases Hospital and the Children’s Hospital.
Guest of Honor Dr. Daniel Chuunga, president of the Woodlands Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, emphasized the importance of supporting health care institutions and extending a helping hand to patients in need.
Woodlands Conference Dorcas Society President Melody Mudenda reaffirmed the society’s commitment to serving communities and supporting vulnerable members of society through acts of compassion and practical assistance.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospitals, Dr. Humphrey Kunda, head of clinical care at UTH-Adult Hospital, said the wheelchairs will ease the movement of patients within the hospitals, particularly those who require assistance in accessing consultation rooms, wards and other service points.
Chief Nursing Officer for Accident and Emergency Georgina Chipowe commended the society for the timely donation and underscored the value of such partnerships in strengthening patient care.
