The KZN father who made headlines after defending his family against three hijackers has spoken publicly for the first time since the incident, revealing that the ordeal is far from over for him and his loved ones.
Sidney Hill confirmed that he was shot twice during the attack and is now dealing with consequences that extend well beyond his physical injuries. In a new update shared by Instagram creator coolstorybru_za on 26 October, the full weight of what the Hill family is still enduring came to light.
Sidney told the content creator that he will most likely need to appear in court in connection with the trial of one of the alleged hijackers who fled the scene and was subsequently arrested. As coolstorybru_za clarified in the comments, Sidney has not been charged with any wrongdoing - but he still requires legal representation for the proceedings. On top of that, his children remain so traumatised that they are currently unable to leave the house, making professional counselling an urgent need.
To cover both the legal fees and the cost of trauma care for his family, Sidney has launched a BackaBuddy fundraising campaign. He admitted that asking for financial help does not come naturally to him, but that a close friend persuaded him it was the right step given the circumstances. Sidney also flagged that false and unverified claims about him are being spread online, adding another layer of stress to an already difficult situation.

The public response to the update has been overwhelmingly supportive, with many South Africans expressing outrage that a man who protected his family at such personal cost now faces any legal process at all. This is what Mzansi said on the page:
@vutomimat_01 wrote:
"This man is a hero in our eyes!!! He protected himself and most importantly his family where he needed to 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾"
@tsongamega voiced frustration shared by many:
"There's no reason why this should even end up in court. Self defence and protecting your family can never be a crime! He was shot twice protecting his family for goodness sake!!!😡😡😡 WE ARE TIRED OF CRIME!!!"
@hasaling appealed directly to the legal community:
"Please can someone represent him pro bono! I'll find a few ppl. The justice system can be horrid! And this man and his family have suffered enough"
@jackwin_oreilly added:
"If anything he should be awarded the Nobel peace award 🥇"
Even BackaBuddy itself responded, saying:
"Thank you for covering Sidney's story so openly and transparently.👏"
