Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday launched the PM Youth Chromebook Scheme, a programme to hand 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks and internet devices to students across Pakistan within two years.
At the launch ceremony in Islamabad, he personally distributed laptops and internet devices to high-performing Grade 9 students and students from seminaries. For many of them, it may be the first computer they have owned.
PM Youth Chromebook Scheme registration is handled through an online portal run by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), and not every student can use it.
The scheme aims to distribute 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks and internet devices over two years. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched it in Islamabad on Sunday. For families wondering whether their child qualifies, the eligibility rules matter more than the headline number.
Who qualifies
Selection is based on the results of the 2026 annual examinations. High-performing Class 9 (SSC-I) students in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are eligible.
Only students enrolled in public-sector schools can apply, and private school students are excluded under the criteria announced so far.
At the launch ceremony, the prime minister handed devices to high-performing Grade 9 students and to students from seminaries.
How to register, step by step
Eligible students can check their details and register on the official portal at pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk.
The process, as described in the source:
- Open the portal and select your educational board.
- Enter your B-Form number, CNIC number, roll number or registration number, whichever applies.
- Type the number without dashes or special characters.
If the record is wrong or cannot be found, the student should contact the relevant board or school administration.
Keep the exam roll number and B-form handy before starting. Most lookup failures in portals like this come from a mismatched number or a typing error.
Deadlines differ by board
The last date for registration varies by educational board. There is no single national deadline. Students should check the notice from their own board and not rely on messages forwarded in family or school groups.
The scheme is large in number but narrow at the entry point. A target of 500,000 devices over two years sits beside an initial eligibility pool limited to high-performing Grade 9 students in public schools. Those two numbers do not obviously match, which suggests either later phases for other classes or a larger share going through other channels, such as the seminary group shown at the launch.
The government has not said which. Until it does, parents of Grade 8 or Grade 10 students and of private school students have no official answer on whether their children will ever qualify..
