Binance has formally applied for a license to keep operating in Brazil. It filed a week before the central bank’s cutoff, which is tight but still on time.
The exchange submitted its application on October 23 through a local entity called BBrasil. The deadline falls on Friday, October 30. Operators that file by then can keep running under a transitional arrangement while regulators review their paperwork.
There’s a catch. The filing comes alongside a noticeably smaller menu for Brazilian customers. Binance is delisting 22 crypto assets and restricting eight of its products in the country.
What Binance filed, and what it cut
The application went in under the full name BBrasil Sociedade Prestadora de Serviços de Ativos Virtuais Ltda. Binance is seeking authorization as a virtual asset service provider, a category known locally as PSAV or SPSAV.
To support the bid, Binance submitted a technical certification through CertiK. The certification covers nearly 900 compliance items.
The service cuts took effect on October 27. Eight products are now restricted for Brazilian users, including loans, margin trading and cloud mining. The 22 delisted tokens also lost trading eligibility for Brazilian accounts starting that same day.
Users with open positions in the affected services are not being forced out immediately. Those positions are moving into reduce-only or closure status. Traders can exit or shrink their exposure, but they cannot add to it.
Spot trading survives. Brazilian users can still buy and sell approved tokens and stablecoins.
A busy week of deadlines
The license filing is one part of a crowded compliance calendar. Binance is also moving customer accounts to a local entity, Binance Brasil Corretora. The migration is targeted for completion by October 29.
That timing matters. The migration is meant to finish one day before the licensing deadline. Brazil’s new reporting requirements for cross-border transfers then begin on November 1.
The local foundation was not built from scratch. Binance acquired Sim;paul, a firm that received central bank authorization in December 2024. That purchase gave the exchange a domestic entity with an existing regulatory history.
Background: Brazil writes its own rulebook
Brazil’s central bank is now supervising virtual asset providers under a formal licensing framework. The October 30 deadline acts as the dividing line. Platforms already active in the country can keep going during the review, but only if their applications are in.
Binance says it hopes ongoing talks with the central bank will let it restore some of the suspended services. No timeline has been given for bringing any restricted products back.
