Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown's return to action the last two weeks has not resulted in the kind of production that the team was hoping to see.
Brown has been targeted with 16 passes from Drake Maye, but they've only resulted in six catches for 75 yards. His first game back featured multiple drops and the results have sparked some concern about whether Brown is struggling to fit into the offense after missing four games with an ankle injury.
That concern is not shared by head coach Mike Vrabel, however.
“No, I don’t have any concern. . . . I thought that he dropped a few passes, and then the other night there was a contested catch that — I’ve seen him make those plays in the past, I’ve seen those plays get called for DPI, and I’ve seen those plays be good plays by the defense down the field,” Vrabel said on WEEI Monday. “So, I don’t think anybody has to press here or anything else. I think we just have to get back into a rhythm offensively with the guys that we have.”
Brown's return against the Jets in Week 6 was followed by a quick turnaround to last Thursday's game against the Bears. He and the Patriots will have a full week to work on things before facing the Dolphins next Sunday.
