Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC has received recognition in the Climate Finance category at the WSBI-ESBG SDG Awards in Bangkok, Thailand, which happened alongside the 2026 IMF Annual Meeting, for its investment in water projects across four locations in Ghana.
The award was for the Bank’s contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation, through mechanized borehole projects at Adidome Senior High School and Taviefe Senior High School in the Volta Region, Pwalugu in the Upper East Region, and Dingoni in the Northern Region.
Delivered through the Bank’s Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) initiative, the projects address a fundamental need: reliable access to clean water. The facilities, including solar- and electricity-powered systems, support the daily water needs of students, staff, and underserved communities, strengthening the foundations for better health, education, and livelihoods.
The Managing Director, Dr. Benjamin Dzoboku, received the award on behalf of the Bank, marking an important milestone in its commitment to responsible banking and sustainable community development.
The recognition highlights the connection between water security and climate resilience. As changing rainfall patterns and water scarcity place pressure on communities, investment in dependable water infrastructure becomes increasingly important. Republic Bank’s interventions show how financial institutions can support practical solutions that meet local needs while advancing broader sustainability goals.
Commenting on the recognition, Dr. Dzoboku said: “For us, climate finance must translate into practical benefits for people: a student who can access clean water at school, a family with a dependable water source, and a community better equipped to face environmental challenges. This award affirms our belief that banking should help secure a more sustainable future. We are proud to receive it on behalf of our staff, customers, partners and the communities whose lives these projects touch.”
Republic Bank’s Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals
Republic Bank places environmental, social and governance considerations at the heart of its approach to responsible growth. Its sustainability priorities connect environmental stewardship with social inclusion, recognizing that long-term economic progress depends on healthy communities, resilient businesses and the responsible use of natural resources.
The Bank’s community investments focus on four Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), and Climate Action (SDG 13). Through these priorities, the Bank seeks to deliver lasting value beyond financial services and make sustainability tangible in the communities it serves.
This local commitment is supported by the wider ambition of its parent company, Republic Financial Holdings Limited (RFHL). In September 2026, the Group announced an expanded sustainable finance commitment totaling US$750 million by 2030 across the Caribbean and Ghana, supporting climate action, women-owned and women-led businesses, and agricultural enterprises.
For Republic Bank Ghana, the award provides further encouragement to deepen its contribution to sustainable development through purposeful investment and partnerships.
The Bank remains committed to supporting initiatives that protect essential resources, strengthen community resilience and create opportunities for future generations.
