Seven people walked out of OpenAI in 2021 to build a safer AI company. Each of them now holds a stake worth more than $13 billion.
Bloomberg reports that Anthropic’s seven co-founders each own about 1.4% of the company. Ownership estimates for the founders have ranged from 1% to 2% each.
How the numbers stack up
The figures rest on Anthropic’s latest private valuation. In May 2026, the company raised $65 billion in a Series H funding round, landing at a $965 billion post-money valuation.
The founding group includes CEO Dario Amodei and President Daniela Amodei, the sibling duo who have become the public faces of the company.
They are not the only early backers sitting on a large position. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt holds roughly 1% of Anthropic, a stake dating back to the company’s Series A round in 2021.
Revenue, losses, and an IPO on the calendar
Anthropic reported $16.8 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2026, a 46% increase from the same period a year earlier.
The company is also posting substantial losses. Those losses have been attributed to non-cash accounting items, meaning charges that show up on the books without money actually leaving the bank account.
Anthropic is preparing for an initial public offering targeted for November 2026. In investor discussions, the potential valuation for that listing has ranged from $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion.
A governance setup built to resist the market
Anthropic is structured as a public-benefit corporation, or PBC, which allows leadership to weigh a stated mission alongside shareholder returns, rather than chasing profit above everything else. In Anthropic’s case, that mission centers on AI safety.
A newly formed Founder LLC gives the co-founders 50.1% combined voting control. The founders own a small fraction of the economics but control a majority of the votes.
The co-founders have also pledged to donate the majority of their wealth.
