Air quality in Tashkent may fluctuate due to unfavorable meteorological conditions, according to the press service of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
Forecasts indicate that concentrations of particulate matter (PM) are expected to increase during the evening and nighttime hours of October 25–26, potentially bringing air quality to an "unhealthy" level under the international Air Quality Index (AQI). Under Uzbekistan's national Air Quality Index, air quality has been classified at the "orange" level.
According to the ministry, the expected increase in particulate matter concentrations is associated with lower nighttime and morning temperatures, light winds and a strong temperature inversion. These conditions restrict air circulation in the lower layers of the atmosphere, leading to the accumulation of PM2.5 and PM10 particles near the ground surface. As a result, particulate matter concentrations may increase during the forecast period.
The ministry reported that a special commission is continuously monitoring air quality in Tashkent. Previously, air quality in certain parts of the capital was reported to have reached a "very unhealthy" level. Throughout the night, the special commission monitored atmospheric conditions across eight districts of Tashkent using instrumental measurement methods.
