Kathmandu, October 27
The 19th Chrysanthemum Flower Competition and Exhibition will be held in Lalitpur from October 29 to November 2.
The Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN) announced at a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday that the exhibition would take place at Jawalakhel Football Ground in Lalitpur from October 29 to November 2, targeting the Tihar and Chhath festivals.
The exhibition aims to promote the commercial production, expansion and development of chrysanthemum cultivation. According to the organisers, the event will feature 86 stalls.
Suman Maharjan, vice-president of the Floriculture Association Nepal and exhibition coordinator, said nurseries and farms would compete in several categories, including miniature, spider, reflex, incurve and cut flowers.
The organisers have introduced a new category, “Outstanding Floral Arrangement”, under the cut flower section this year. Nurseries and farms that excel in different categories will receive shields, cash prizes and certificates, he said.
More than 450 varieties of flowers and plants will be displayed, including commercially cultivated chrysanthemums and new varieties introduced this year, Maharjan said.
The organisers expect more than 39,000 visitors and transactions worth over Rs 13 million during the exhibition.
According to the Floriculture Association Nepal, flower cultivation currently covers more than 325 hectares across the country, with an estimated investment of over Rs 11.5 billion in the floriculture sector.
