Troy Aikman got emotional on Monday Night Football while remembering his good friend and former colleague David Moulton.
While calling the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game on Monday, Oct. 26, Aikman got choked up when talking about Moulton, a southwest Florida sports broadcaster who died on Oct. 24 at the age of 59 after being diagnosed with stage 4 renal cell cancer.
“He was a fighter right up until the end, and... uh, sorry,” Aikman, 59, said as his voice broke. “I was just going to say, he left a hole in a lot of people’s hearts. Just a good man.”

In the on-air tribute, Aikman and his partner Joe Buck paid tribute to Moulton by showing a clip from a game in 2022 in which Moulton dressed as Sully from Monsters Inc. while in the booth.
Moulton and Aikman worked together when the former was at Fox Sports. Moulton worked as a spotter in the booth during NFL games, alongside Aikman and Buck.

In August, Moulton took a leave of absence from his podcast Miller and Moulton, which he hosted with former rival Florida sportscaster Mark Miller.
On Instagram on Sunday, Aikman shared a tribute to Moulton.
“Since 2018, David Moulton has been my right-hand man in the broadcast booth,” Aikman wrote alongside a picture of himself and Moulton. “What started as a professional relationship became a friendship I have cherished.”
The Hall of Fame quarterback continued, “David was loyal, dependable and a warrior until the very end. He deserved better. My heart breaks for his family and all who loved him. I’m grateful for the years we shared and will miss him deeply. Rest in peace big guy🙏🏼❤️”
