The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Toronto Raptors, 117-94, on Sunday. The game was over so early that 14 players saw the floor for the Timberwolves. By the fourth quarter both teams were just trying to get through the game without incident, but Bones Hyland had other ideas.
With under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter the Timberwolves turned the ball over. Hyland jogged back on defense and was called for a foul on a half-hearted shot contest. That’s when Hyland grabbed the ball and cocked his arm back like he was going to throw it at the official.
He didn’t, because he wasn’t really mad, but referee Pat Fraher said something and Hyland, with a huge smile, cocked his arm back again. This time Fraher blew his whistle and called a technical foul.

It’s hard to pick a favorite face from Hyland in the replay. His eyes are huge. His smile even bigger. Fraher was only briefly annoyed with his behavior and the pair immediately went back to having a good natured conversation while the Raptors shot the technical free throw.

If there is a less contentious technical foul call this season, it will be an absolute delight to behold.
Hyland played a season-high 15 minutes in the game and finished with an equally strange box score. He missed all five of his shot attempts, but scored three points to go along with three rebounds, two assists, three blocks and two steals. Hyland was just doing his part as a Timberwolves player this season. Even when you aren’t playing well, be entertaining at all times.
