Former FBI Director James Comey is facing a third criminal case from President Donald Trump's administration, the latest accusing him of sharing sensitive national security information.
Comey was charged with transmitting and conspiring to transmit national defence information in October 2016, according to court documents made public on Monday.
Comey said in a video on Instagram that "they're back again" and referenced the Justice Department, but did not provide further details.
"I'm still innocent," he added.
The Trump administration is employing the unusual manoeuvre of bypassing a grand jury - a move Comey's lawyers say makes the case legally invalid.
Comey's lawyers have already asked a judge to dismiss the case.
The allegations from the Justice Department came in documents unsealed on Monday in federal court in Washington.
It's the third criminal case that the Justice Department has brought against the longtime critic and foe of Trump since the Republican president's return to the White House in 2025.
