SABC1's beloved daily drama Skeem Saam is having a big awards season. The show's official X account, @SkeemSaam3, announced that Season 15 had picked up three nominations at the 4th Annual National Film and TV Awards South Africa (NFTA 2026), calling on its loyal fanbase to get behind the cast. The post reads:
"Congratulations to #SkeemSaam and the nominees! ✨🙌 Show your support by registering and voting at nationalfilmandtvawards.co.za."
The show is in the running for Best Scripted TV Series, recognising its landmark 15th season as one of South Africa's most-watched dramas. On the individual front, Lerato Marabe, who plays the long-running character Pretty Seakamela, received a Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series nomination. Her performance across Season 15's emotional storyline arcs clearly made an impression on the awards voters.
Rounding out the trio is a Best Newcomer nod for Relebogile Mothapo, a significant milestone early in her career on SABC1. The NFTA 2026 nominations reflect both the show's enduring status on South African television and the hunger fans have for it to keep raising the bar in its 15th year on air.
Fans share mixed feelings
While the nominations sparked celebration, some viewers took the opportunity to voice concerns about the show's direction. Peeps were supportive of certain picks but less convinced by others.
@za_lady1 wrote:
"The first two nominations, I totally agree. Not sure about the 3rd nomination. She still needs to polish her acting craft. She has toned down a bit in the 'over-acting' at least."
@sheetsngeeggles had a different take:
"I'm here for Jacqui! That girl has a lot of potential. I hope one of the more 'TV'-experienced actors like Mantuli will take her under their wing. Not your OTT stage actors."
@lulushezi wasn't fully sold on the celebration, responding to a separate post:
"They've dropped the ball on so many storylines, and it's frustrating. You guys are taking our loyalty for granted, and I hope you are taking concerns seriously @SkeemSaam3."
@mulaudziompha added a pointed criticism:
"Not until you fire whoever writes the police scripts. 😭"
@Phoza89 kept it positive:
"Congratulations to the nominees 🎉🎉"
Lerato Matabe reflected on her acting journey
Lerato Matabe opened up about growing up alongside her character Pretty Seakamela, on Skeem Saam since the age of 11.
The actress described Pretty's ab*rtion storyline as one of the most emotionally demanding experiences of her career.
