A mobile court of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) today partially demolished unauthorised sections of four buildings and sealed off two others in the port city's Khulshi and Chandgaon areas for violating approved construction plans.
The drive targeted six buildings, according to a CDA press release.
The extended portions of four buildings were partially demolished for deviating from approved designs, while two buildings were sealed off. Their owners were also required to submit written affidavits pledging to comply fully with building codes and regulations in future, the release said.
CDA also issued strict warnings to two other establishments, including Basket, a popular commercial store in Khulshi, over unauthorised structural modifications.
CDA Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain said constructing buildings in violation of approved designs posed serious threats to planned urban development and public safety.
He added that drives against deviations from approved designs and construction irregularities would continue to ensure a planned, safe and liveable Chattogram, urging building owners to act responsibly.
The drive was jointly led by CDA Special Magistrate Hamimun Tanjin, a joint district and sessions judge, and Authorised Officer-01 Kazi Kader Newaz. Senior CDA officials, staff and an adequate number of law enforcement personnel were present during the operation.
