FedEx Corp. announced Monday the appointment of AutoZone executive Jamere Jackson as chief financial officer, effective Nov. 30. He succeeds Claude Russ, who has served as interim CFO since June 1 after the departure of John Dietrich.
Jackson most recently led finance and store development at retailer AutoZone, where he has served as CFO since January 2021. FedEx (NYSE: FDX) said his skill set combines disciplined financial management, thoughtful capital allocation, and operational experience to support business growth.
“During Jamere’s six-year tenure at AutoZone, he was a key contributor in helping shape the strategies we implemented to drive record sales, earnings, and earnings per share. I appreciate his many contributions to our success and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said AutoZone CEO Phil Daniele in a statement.
Before AutoZone, Jackson served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Hertz Global Holdings and as chief financial officer of Nielsen Holdings. Earlier in his career, he held a variety of leadership roles at General Electric, including chief financial officer of a division of GE Oil and Gas. Jackson currently serves on the board for Eli Lilly & Co, where he is chair of the Audit Committee.
Why It Matters: FedEx is a Fortune 100 company and a bellwether of the U.S. economy and global trade.
Jackson joins FedEx as the freight transportation giant executes its Network 2.0 strategy for consolidating separate Ground and Express networks, and streamlining airline operations, during a volatile period for supply chains because of high fuel prices triggered by the Iran war and global tariff proliferation.
FedEx produced strong results for the fiscal year fourth quarter ending on May 1. FedEx grew full-year revenue by 9% to $94.7 billion and adjusted operating income by 17%. The 7.7% adjusted operating margin was the highest margin rate in four years.
John Dietrich joined FedEx as CFO in August 2023, after leading all-cargo airline Atlas Air. He played a key role in implementing FedEx’s initiative for eliminating billions of dollars in structural costs, the Network 2.0 consolidation strategy, the Tricolor restructuring of the airline to better align capacity with service levels and the planned spin off of FedEx Freight, which have helped the company produce several quarters of solid profit growth.
Dietrich joined the board of American Airlines in July.
