The Miami Heat is going through a dreadful time. The tough luck that shadowed them last season refuses to leave their side, and, fresh into the new season, the franchise is off to a 0-4 start.
A matter of regret and serious self-evaluation for the team and a huge disappointment for the fans. So let’s take a look at what went wrong in those games.
Downfall Post the Pre-season
The pre-season was a success for the Heat. Out of the five games they played, they won three, with victories over the Toronto Raptors, New Orleans Pelicans, and Brooklyn Nets. They beat the Pelicans (128–118), the Raptors (129–105), and the Brooklyn Nets (144–128). Even their newly acquired superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo had a successful Miami debut, where Erik Spoelstra praised his individual performance. But once the official season began, the situation took a drastic turn.
A Look at the First Four Games

So far, the Heat have played four games, and all have been big disappointments. In their season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Timberwolves remained dominant and took the win 131-106.
Antetokounmpo scored a team-high 35 points and grabbed six rebounds against the Timberwolves. Bam Adebayo disappointed with only 15 points, and both Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell scored 11. Minnesota scored 30+ points in each of the four quarters and outscored Miami 65-49 in the second and third quarters. Anthony Edwards recorded 45 points to lead the way for the Timberwolves.
Their next clash with the Pistons was also a learning experience, with a 128-111 loss. The weakness of their defense was on full display, and they shot only 15-of-51 (29.4%) from three-point range. Struggling in the first half, the Heat made only 17 of 52 field-goal attempts. Moreover, in the first two quarters, Adebayo and Antetokounmpo were whistled for three fouls.
Their third against the Charlotte Hornets was a disaster that has set the internet ablaze. Social media platforms are filled with harsh criticism and allegations, especially after the 115-110 loss to the Hornets, a team fans believed Miami could have easily beaten. The loss also added a sad chapter in the Heat’s history, as it marked the first time they have lost three consecutive games to start the season since 2007-08 and the fifth time ever.
There has also been a lack of inspiration, which coach Erik Spoelstra addressed publicly, saying, “I told my team right now that we need inspiration,” and promising they will get there. Though Spoelstra was unhappy about Antetokounmpo fouling out in 25 minutes, he also made it clear that he is not holding them accountable for this loss.
Final: HEAT 110, Hornets 115
Mitchell: 22pts, 10asts
Adebayo: 20pts, 8rebs
Larsson: 15pts, 7rebs
Antetokounmpo: 14pts, 6rebs
Thompson: 14pts
Portis Jr.: 13pts, 8rebs, 2stls— Miami HEAT (@MiamiHEAT) October 25, 2026
Adding fuel to the fire is their recent loss to the Dallas Mavericks by 113-109 last night. To Antetokounmpo’s credit, he tried his best and delivered 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists, the highest for this season. Up until the second period, Miami tried to gain an edge in the competition, holding a four-point lead. But after that, the Mavericks took control, resulting in another loss.
Roster Fails and Fuming Fans

Ever since Miami brought Antetokounmpo on board, it brought new life and new energy in the Heat fandom. Then the very selective and choosy roster update over the summer that brought some talented veterans with worthy experience alongside some promising young talent was no less than a renaissance.
The carefully crafted roster revolution is pursued for the sole purpose of winning at all costs, but what looks perfect on paper isn’t materializing on the court. And the fans who have long waited for some victories are now angry, as the fabulousness they’ve been waiting for just isn’t coming.
Their usual aggressive defense strategy is not working for them. Their perimeter defense has been weak this season; their offense is also not strategic, while their players are operating with limited floor spacing. Adebayo, as well as players granted extensions, are also struggling.
The Last Word on the Heat’s Disastrous Start
The current situation is undeniably a challenge, but it’s not impossible to overcome. From their performance, it is established that they are yet to find their rhythm as a group. Right now, there are gaps in their coordination, and Antetokounmpo, despite his efforts to do the heavy lifting, is falling flat. The team as a whole hasn’t created a proper channel around him.
But the games have just begun, and for a roster as disoriented as this, with its tremendous changes, it might take some time to find its footing. Even experts insist that, at this moment, this is a waiting game.
