Malaysia’s Harbour-Link Group has disclosed a RM56.7m ($13.9m) investment in two containerships at domestic builder Sapor Shipbuilding Industries as it expands its regional shipping operations.
The Sarawak-based group said its 85%-owned subsidiary Harbour-Link Lines had entered into two contracts with the Sibu shipyard for the construction of a pair of 90 m self-propelled container vessels.
Harbour-Link operates shipping and logistics businesses serving Malaysia and regional Asian markets.
The latest investment is intended to increase its marine fleet capacity and support growing demand for container transportation services.
The company has not disclosed the vessels’ nominal teu capacity or expected entry-into-service dates.
